Together we're unlimited

been somewhat losing focus at work, i think... i need to get back in mood. which means... phone back in bag, not in apron pocket, and stop letting the person who insists on yabbering nonstop to me distract me from doing my job. in other words, discipline.

i'm not too sure if i really want to do the cake counter though... it's so slack that i feel like i'm barely doing anything. unlike out on the floor, where there're always plates to clear, or food/drinks to send out, bills to collect/return. ionno.

the learning curve was steep the first couple of days, after that it all becomes a matter of practice. i'm just feeling a little perturbed by my change in attitude. i think it was a negative change. so i just gotta buck up and stop doing stupid things that i know i will regret. faizal tells me he doesn't understand why i have to keep pushing myself so hard and being so unforgiving of mistakes. i guess a large part of it is because i know i'm capable. and i know i can get results if i push myself hard enough, so why settle for less? the past couple of days i somehow started thinking that i didn't have to put in -that- much effort, so long as i was doing as much as what the other part-timers were. so i think i regressed, somewhat. but it left me feeling very uncomfortable about myself. so, here's my resolution for this job, and hopefully for every other job that is going to come my way: no more merely matching up to other people's standards - i will set my own, and live up to them. in other words, i will excel and surpass others if i have to.

trolling wikipedia, and i found this:
"According to Kurt Goldstein's book The Organism: A Holistic Approach to Biology Derived from Pathological Data in Man, self-actualization is "the tendency to actualize, as much as possible, [the organism's] individual capacities" in the world. The tendency toward self-actualization is "the only drive by which the life of an organism is determined." Goldstein defined self-actualization as a driving life force that will ultimately lead to maximizing one's abilities and determine the path of one's life."
fascinating. but for some reason, the above paragraph sounds a bit like academic bullshit to me. it's pretty much saying the same thing, three times over, rephrased each time. but the crux of it makes sense to me.
